Kim’s Message: Walking the Talk in 2026

It’s January and you know what that means…people will soon be asking if you have any New Year’s Resolutions for 2026! If you read my newsletter article last month, you already know about two that I am working on, but the third is making sure I continue to “Walk the Talk” as the CEO of California Employers Association. That means aligning my words with my actions, especially when it comes to investing in our people, delivering value to members, and navigating change with honesty, transparency and care.

I was surprised when I read about workplace tension at the worlds largest HR organization. The article cited former employees of SHRM who described leadership concerns, strict workplace policies and confusion around recent organizational changes. The story highlighted unease about workplace culture and noted criticism from members about whether SHRM’s internal practices align with the HR standards they promote. If SHRM, known as a leader in HR best practices, can experience this, it can happen to any of us whenever our actions don’t align with our words and company values.

Many are reaching out to us for assistance in creating a workplace culture that reflects their core values. “Walking the talk” sets the tone for everything else in your business. It reinforces the fact that values aren’t just aspirational but also operational. In a workplace where actions match intentions, progress feels real, momentum builds, and trust is a shared foundation rather than a talking point. This will remain a goal for me in 2026.

Speaking of Walking the Talk, CEA would like to recognize and thank our outgoing board members for their commitment and meaningful contributions: Denise Highfill, Sarah Hayden, and Sheryl Carlson. Your exceptional leadership has left a strong impact on CEA, and we thank you for your dedicated service. We’re also delighted to welcome our three newest board members: Lambert Hsu, Evelyn Milani, and Michelle Glancy. We look forward to the experience, insight, and collaboration they will bring to CEA’s Board of Directors.
