Don’t Wait for a Complaint to Master Workplace Investigation Skills
Posted by Virginia Young, HR Compliance Director on November 19, 2025
California’s Fair Employment and Housing Act requires employers to conduct “fair, timely, and thorough” investigations of harassment, discrimination, or retaliation. For many other types of misconduct, workplace investigations are a best practice to protect the company from liability.
In-house professionals responding to harassment, discrimination, and retaliation complaints will need to act quickly and under pressure. For those who need to learn the basics or brush up on their workplace investigation skills, the situation is even more challenging. Recent court cases have scrutinized employer investigations, and the holidays typically see an uptick in complaints, so it’s more important than ever to make sure you are prepared before a complaint comes in. CEA’s Mastering Workplace Investigations course is a no-judgment two-part course designed for professionals who have never conducted an investigation, or those who may have conducted a few investigations but want to brush up on best practices. Attendees will have the opportunity to actively participate in practical exercises and collaborative group discussions while learning how to:
- Recognize when an investigation is required or recommended
- Follow all steps for a thorough investigation
- Prepare for and conduct interviews
- Review evidence
- Make findings
- Take corrective action
Registration is open for our December 3 and December 4 series. The series is approved for HCRI and SHRM credit.
